司马家族各王之间的你争我打，极大的消耗了晋朝国力，而内迁的五胡经过上百年繁衍生息和汉化学习，在中原有了一定的实力，趁西晋王朝内乱，逐渐崛起。西晋被灭后，世家大族为了躲避中原五胡之乱，衣冠南渡，进入南方。在南方的司马睿在大家拥护下称帝，继承了西晋的衣钵，史称东晋。北方沦落为五胡互相攻伐的地方，他们谁都有野心在乱世中分得一杯羹，但短期内都没有压倒性优势灭掉其他势力，北方形成十六国割据。南方保持着相对统一，和南方继承了晋朝衣钵有关，再加上有北方的威胁存在，并没有松懈。北方没有形成长期的统一政权，也没有精力南下和南朝争锋，从东晋到宋齐梁陈，南方一直保持相对统一状态，直到隋朝完成北方大一统后，南方避无可避，长达三百多年的乱世终于结束。

我们再来看看五代十国的状态。五代十国起始于唐朝安史之乱后的藩镇割据，各地节度使拥兵一方，唐朝中央朝廷难以节制。朱温篡唐后，他所控制的地方和唐朝后期中央所控制的地方没有大的区别，原来唐朝的节度使并不服朱温，南方的节度使更是鞭长莫及。由于朱温的胡乱操作，很快就被其他势力所灭，新王朝同样无法节制南方节度使，而北方的节度使和兵强马壮者，不断上演你争我打的游戏。北方牙兵难以控制，他们直接决定了统治者是否稳固，一旦无法满足他们的利益，他们就重新推选新君，短短半个世纪，北方经过了五代的变迁。北方忙于“下克上”，不断推倒重来，没有精力管理南方，给了南方自由发展时间。由于南方各政权发源于唐朝后期的节度使，造成多个势力原本就相互独立，而非像南朝那样形成先后继承关系，南方在一开始就形成了“多国”局面。

这些政权中，吴越国奉行保境安民的策略，奉中原王朝为正朔；南汉过于偏南，过着相对保守和隔阂的状态；后蜀由于地理环境的易守难攻，偏安一隅。只有南唐有些进取心，一度灭楚，并向北发展，可惜又遇到了柴荣和赵匡胤，经过多次大战，失去了长江以北的据点，到了南唐后主李煜时，已经没有实力和北方抗衡。有心无力的南唐，各安其命的其他政权，无暇南顾的五代，让南方形成了时间比较长的“多国”局面。直到宋太祖时期，赵匡胤杯酒释兵权，彻底解决了“下克上”的基础，经过郭威、郭荣、赵匡胤、赵光义的努力，最终结束五代十国的局面。可见，两个不同乱世的“多国”局面形成的格局不一样，主要和乱世之前的王朝更迭方式有关。对此，大家认为呢？
